To the editor:
I have read the front-page stories on the Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Child Development Board financial debacle with deep relief as well as gratitude to the seasoned educator-administrators who are stepping into the fray to sort out the mess.
A long-time BHK advocate and former Head Start parent representative, I know full well the positive impact BHK's programs have on area children and their families. For the sake of current and future generations, we cannot afford to let the agency sink, a victim of misguided stewardship.
I'm thankful the Copper Country Intermediate School District has stepped in to immediately address the problem in a decisive, effective and transparent manner. As a former education reporter, I am familiar with the work of Dennis Harbour, Bill Polkinghorne and Pat Rozich in particular and place full faith and confidence in their abilities to take the bull by the horns. I, along with others who value BHK, am rooting for you and will be watching further developments with great interest.
