George A. Yandl

PAINESDALE - George A. Yandl, 65, a resident of Painesdale, died unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.

He was born in South Bend, Ind. on March 9, 1947, a son of the late George and Pauline (Helling) Yandl and was a 1964 graduate of Niles High School in Niles, Mich.

Following graduation, George attended Lake Michigan College where he received an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending college, he worked at Reed's Electronics in Benton Harbor, Mich., eventually working there fulltime. He then moved to Houghton and attended Michigan Technological University where he received his Bachelor's degree.

After graduating from Tech, George was employed for two years at Northern Electronics in Laurium. He then opened and operated his own business, Firearms and Supplies in Hancock, and took on his friend, Frank Brychta as a business partner.

George was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range. He was also a member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Painesdale.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors, photography, biking and working with computers.

In 1968, George married Cheryl True. They had four children together: Emily Yandl (Sue Ryan) of Ashland, Mass., Geoffrey (Carrie Iho) Yandl of Rockford, Mich., and their children, Grace and Jack, Michael Yandl of Madison, Wis. and David Yandl of East Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Beverly (Terrance) Green of South Bend, Ind.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his special friend, Carole Haivala of Painesdale; and his former business partner and longtime friend, Frank Brychta of Chassell.

Besides his parents, George was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Richard Yandl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at Holy Family Parish in South Range with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday in the church from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, Ind.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church in George's memory.
