Kenneth “Ken” C. Usitalo

TRIMOUNTAIN - Kenneth "Ken" C. Usitalo, 78, a resident of Trimountain, died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Portage Township on Oct. 4, 1934, a son of the late Fred and Sophie (Onkalo) Harry and was a 1952 graduate of Houghton High School.

On Aug. 25, 1956, he was married to the former Paula M. Andreini at Holy Family Parish in South Range. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2001.

Ken worked on the ore boats, sailing on the Great Lakes. He then worked for 20 years at White Pine Copper Co. as a shop foreman and head mechanic. In 1971, he and his wife, Paula, opened Usitalo's Service and Repair in South Range, operating the business for over 31 years.

Ken enjoyed traveling, especially making trips on his boat to Isle Royale with his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling and golfing.

Surviving are two sons, four daughters and 12 grandchildren: Kerry (Mark) Davis of Harbor Springs, Mich., and their children, Sam and Dan; Scott Usitalo of Cincinnati, Ohio and his children, Julia and Olivia, Pam Que of Davisburg, Mich., and her children, Trevor, Carolyn and Sophi, Liisa (Chris) Morley of Petoskey, Peter (Deborah) Usitalo of Superior Road., Houghton and their children, AriAnna and Eva, Jeanne (John) Niemoller of Groton, Mass. and their children, Rachel, John "Jack" and Eric; two brothers, Harold (Judy) Usitalo of Hancock and George (Jill) Usitalo of Livonia; his friend, Gena Heck of Houghton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Ken was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Perfetti; two brothers, Jacob and Fred Harry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday in the mortuary. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
