CHASSELL - P. Jane Bates, 68, of Chassell, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2012, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Jane was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Calumet, a daughter of Percy and Anna (St. Amour) Roberts. She attended the Hancock Schools.
She worked for 20 years as head cook for McNair Hall at Michigan Tech, retiring in 2001.
Jane was previously married to Arthur C. Bates.
Ms. Bates enjoyed going to the casino, her flower garden, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and crocheting.
Jane was brought up in the Catholic faith.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Albert and Stanley Roberts; sisters, Genevieve Copley, Lorraine Masters and Rosemarie Peterson.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy D. Bates of Niceville, Fla., and Kenneth L. Bates of Chassell; a daughter, Tiffany J. (Justin) Dieter of Chassell; one brother, Fred (Janet) Roberts of Aura; one sister, Ethel Brunet of L'Anse; her former husband, Arthur C. Bates of Sun City, Ariz.; four grandsons, Eric, Stephen, Ryan and Dawson; two great-granddaughters, Melissa and Elizabeth; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. from the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell with Fr. Al Mott to officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
