HANCOCK - Rose E. Krapu, 78, a former resident of Hancock and Skandia, passed away early Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2012, at Portage Health where she had been a patient for the past two days.
She was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Dodgeville, a daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Salmi) Mattson. Rose was raised in the Dodgeville area and attended Isle Royale School.
On April 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Calvin Krapu. The couple resided in Hancock until moving to live with their daughter in Skandia in 2009. Calvin preceded her in death on July 15, 2009.
Mrs. Krapu had worked as a waitress at the Kaleva Cafe in Hancock and Lindell's Chocolate Shoppe in Lake Linden before becoming a health aide in the area.
Rose loved to spend time with her family, watching her grandchildren, spending time gardening, crocheting and caring for animals.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Calvin; her granddaughter, Angela; her brothers, Robert and Ronald; her sister, Delores Nelson.
Surviving are her children, Glenn (Donna) Krapu of Hancock and Karen (AlStarrine) Penar of Skandia; her grandchildren, Jill Allen, Brad Krapu, Andrew Krapu, Jeni Mendez-Marcotte, Clint Marcotte, Christie Erikkale and Jennie Peterson; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Helen Sirvio of Dollar Bay, Barbara Forsman of Paavola, Sharon (Roger) Harry of Hurontown and Shirley (Walter) Harry of Tapiola; her brothers, Wilbert (Patty Ann) Mattson of Superior Location and Roy (Carolyn) Mattson of Superior Location; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Rose will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the home of Glenn and Donna Krapu. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
