EAGLE RIVER - The case of a man accused of leaving the scene of a 2011 accident in Keweenaw County that killed his friend could have a resolution soon.

A plea hearing will take place in Nov. 7 for David Simons, 38, of Calumet.

Prosecuting Attorney Donna Jaaskelainen said Friday she and Simons' attorney, Nicholas Daavettila, had discussed a potential plea agreement to the case. Jaaskelainen said she needed additional time to discuss the agreement with Brusso's family.

Simons was allegedly driving when his car ran off the roadway and into trees on 5 Mile Point Road in Allouez Township.

The accident killed Jeffrey Brusso, 53, who was riding in the passenger seat. Police found Simons at his home in Calumet about two-and-a-half hours after the accident.
