20th year for Jamboree

November 5, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Oct. 20 marked the 20th anniversary for the E. B. Holman School Country Jamboree at Houghton High School. While this event is the major fundraiser for the music and art programs at the school, it also provides great music to the community and an opportunity for musicians to come together.

The Rolling Thunder Band was comprised of Bill Kautto, Mike Roberts, Mike Jutila, Hugo Lehto, and Chad Borgen, with special appearances from Randy Bell and Dan Kinnunen. Ten more artists from up to two hours away shared their talent. Mike Urbis was the MC and also performed. Thank you so much to all who attended and to all who performed. We would like to thank our stage sponsors: Hillside Restaurant; Pat's Foods and Festival Foods; Joseph Daavettila, CPA; and The Print Shop in Houghton, and the 15 businesses that supported the ad in The Daily Mining Gazette. Six more businesses contributed refreshments and funds for tickets. We are thankful to the Houghton High School staff for working with us and sharing their auditorium. We appreciate the time and effort of the 15 parents and ushers running the event and the 14 parents who provided refreshments for the band members. Again, thank you to all those who contributed to the 50/50 raffle; the proceeds will go to support the school.

Most importantly, we extend our thanks to Dan and Denise Kinnunen , who have continued to perform and organize the band member practices for the last 20 years. We are grateful to Once and Again Trading Company for selling the tickets, even through a renovation of the store.
