To the editor:
The Copper Country Killer Whales would like to extend several thank yous to local businesses and individuals who have graciously helped them successfully complete their first swim meet of the season.
First, a monstrous thank you to Tadych's EconoFoods and its loyal customers for allowing the team to bag groceries and man the snack shack. The funds raised were vital to the team being able to pay the pool fees, meet fees, coaches' salaries, etc. We truly appreciate their generosity and support.
Second, we'd like to thank the businesses who donated food at reduced or no cost for the swim meet. They include Vollwerth's, Pat's Foods, Pepsi of Houghton and Coca Cola of Hancock. This helped us keep our costs down.
Third, we'd like to thank those businesses that placed ads in the swim meet heat sheets: McDonald's, Aspirus Keweenaw, Michigan Tech Employees Federal Credit Union, Vollwerth's, Good Times Music, McGann's Building Supply and the Magnuson Hotel Franklin Square Inn. Without the heat sheets, swimmers and their families would not easily know which race they are in.
Finally, we would be remiss if we did not thank the wonderful volunteers from Air Force ROTC Det. 400 and all of the fantastic parents, family and friends of our swimmers who made the meet possible. Their efforts to make the meet run so smoothly were amazing. This was definitely the largest meet we've held in quite a while at Houghton, and our volunteer corps really rose to the occasion. Thanks especially to all of the new parents who jumped in and handled their new roles like pros.
It's great to be part of such a team effort and it was great to see the kids swim so well and have so much fun as a result of all of your efforts.
