Keweenaw County races and millages

EAGLE RIVER - For Keweenaw County, the following are the results of the election: Donna L. Jaaskelainen ran unopposed for prosecuting attorney with 999 votes. Ronald Lahti won the county sheriff race, also running unopposed, with 1,219 votes.

Julie Carlson won for county clerk with 1,111 votes, also unopposed. Geri Hall won unopposed for county treasurer with 1,088 votes. James R. Kaura won mine inspector unopposed with 1,037 votes.

John Karvonen won the race for full term county road commissioner with 805 votes. His opponent Ernest J. Mooney received 542 votes. For the partial-term county road commissioner, Gordon Jaaskelainen won with 797 votes while his opponent Ed Tulppo received 416 votes.

Allouez Township

Kevin Gherna won the supervisor position, running unopposed with 621 votes. Renee Pinsonneault won the clerk position with 460 votes, running unopposed. Amy Garrow won the treasurer position, unopposed, with 615 votes. Two spots were open for trustee and Mark Aho and Victor Tanskanen took the spots with 450 and 527 votes, respectively.

Ahmeek Village

Mark J. Vichich won the presidency with 48 votes, running unopposed. Amy Kumpula won clerk with 58 votes. Coreen Balbough is the treasurer with 57 votes, running unopposed. For trustee, Susan Gherna came away with 57 votes, Barbara Kezele with 49 votes and David Sundberg with 47 votes. William David Lahnala, who ran unopposed, took home the partial-term trustee position with 52 votes.

Eagle Harbor Township

Rich Probst Jr. won the position of supervisor over incumbent Edward Kisiel with a tally of 201 votes to 47. Jeane Olson ran unopposed for clerk and came away with 217 votes. Ann Johnson ran unopposed for treasurer and secured 221 votes. There were two spots open for trustee and Connie Eddy and Richard Harrer filled them with 185 votes and 181 votes, respectively.

Grant Township

Ken Stigers won the supervisor race with 119 votes. His opponent, Alexander Protzel, received 69 votes. Kelly Coltas ran unopposed for clerk and received 161 votes. Karen Karl secured the treasurer spot with 158 votes, running unopposed. The two spots open for trustee were filled by Ned Huwatschek and Art Davis, receiving 132 votes and 125 votes, respectively. With three spots open on the Grant Township School Board, Christine Musiel, Carolyn Stevens and Patricia Ann Walters are now on the board with 139, 132 and 128 votes, respectively. The Grant Township School District operating millage renewal also passed with 152 votes for and 29 against.

Houghton Township

Supervisor went to James R. Vivian (R) with 60 votes. Clerk went to Carol Jones (R) with 55 votes. Write-in candidate Jeff Williams had nine votes. Treasurer went to Shari Chase (D) with 64 votes. The two open spots for trustee went to Mary Long (R) and Jack Treganowan (R) with 53 and 58 votes, respectively.

Sherman Township

Supervisor went to Rob Middlemis-Brown (D) with 42 votes. Adeline Schmidt secured Clerk with 53 votes. Marilyn V. Kastelic received 51 votes for treasurer. Two spots were open on for trustee and Robert Strykowski and Deneen Connell received 39 and 30 votes, respectively.

Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw

Larry C. Kristapovich and Phyllis M. Locatelli were elected to the Board with 689 and 750 votes, respectively.
