HANCOCK - Portage Health is putting on an inaugural 5k run/walk Turkey Trot. The event will take place at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Participants are to gather in the lobby of Portage Health in Hancock.

Portage Health Community Health Organizer and event coordinator Angela Luskin said the event is a way to remind people about staying healthy.

"We were trying to come up with something to have people be active before their Thanksgiving feast and we thought the Turkey Trot would be a good idea," Luskin said.

Planning for the event has taken place since September and as of now there are about 150 people registered.

"It's great," Luskin said. "...We're hoping to make it an annual event."

The run/walk will go toward the Maasto Hiihto trails and then circle around the Keweenaw Co-Op, finishing at Portage Health.

Refreshments and healthy snacks will be served after the run.

Registration is free and still available and can be done online by going to eventbrite.com/event/4686101255.
