HOUGHTON - James G. Peterson, 76, of Houghton and former Calumet resident passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Calumet on March 16, 1936, a son of Gustave and Cecilia (Kaukinen) Peterson. Jim graduated from Calumet High School in 1953.
He was united in marriage to Jannette Miller on Sept. 1, 1956, and the couple resided most of their lifetime in Calumet, Laurium and most recently in Houghton.
Jim worked locally for Detroit & Northern Bank as a loan officer, First National Bank as the vice president and most recently he was an insurance agent, retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet.
Jim enjoyed playing sports, but he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Walter and George; a daughter, Janel; a son, Glenn; a granddaughter, Olivia; and a grandson, Daniel.
Surviving are his wife, Jannette; four daughters, Debbie and Bob Parks of Laurium, Cheryl and Steve Jarl of Dassel, Minn., Lynn and Walter Torola of Centennial, Colleen and Ed Lemler of Calumet; two sons, Robert and Bridget Peterson of Ebikon, Switzerland and Dave and Nancy Peterson of Boston Location; daughter-in- law, Patty Peterson of Hancock; one brother, Arnold and Marianne Peterson of Calumet; one sister, Verna Daavettila of Laurium; 35 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Peterson will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Richard Eskola officiating. Friends may call on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service in the church.
