NEGAUNEE, MICH. - Reynold C. Knuttila, age 77, of Negaunee, passed away of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in Escanaba.
Reynold was born Sept. 1, 1935, in Houghton, a son of the late Jacob and Fannie (Finney) Knuttila. He graduated from Houghton High School, Class of 1953, and served his country in the US Army.
Reynold and his family moved to Milwaukee where they lived for several years before moving to Negaunee where he lived for the past 42 years.
Reynold worked as a custodian for Northern Michigan University and he retired from there in 2000.
He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan, enjoyed reading and was well-known for his craft work, especially wooden toys.
He was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp.
Reynold is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Norman) Knuttila whom he married on Oct. 6, 1956; two children, Cheryl (Gary) Schafer of Crystal Lake, IL and Scott (Lisa) Knuttila of Brandon, WI; four grandchildren, Danielle, Derek, Megan and Tegan; four sisters, Ruth Salo of Hancock, Rachel Heikkinen of South Lyon, Mich, Rose (Dave) Hillstrom and Regina Dave) Juntti, both of Lake Linden; a brother, Robert (Lois) Knuttila of Houghton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Reynold was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond.
Reynold's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ispenimg from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Roger Kangas officiating. Interment will be in the Oskar Cemetery in the spring.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ernie Kossow, Lars Knuttila, Ken Knuttila, John Heikkinen, Bill Knuttila and Steve Salo.
