HOUGHTON - Eating at Joey's Seafood & Grill on Tuesday can do more than fill your stomach.

Twenty percent of every bill from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday will be donated to Houghton Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization.

Joey's owner Alan Kiley, whose oldest child is in kindergarten this year, said he and his wife Cheryl got the idea after attending a couple of PTO meetings.

Joey’s Seafood & Grill on Shelden Avenue will be hosting a fundraiser Tuesday for the Houghton Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

"They talked about how they raised funds here and there," he said. "We said this is something we've done for other decent causes in the past, and we'd like to help the PTO."

Kiley said he didn't have any particular project in mind.

"Just the PTO itself is a great tool for teachers and students to be able to do some things they might not otherwise be able to do," he said.

Joey's diners are asked to mention the charity before receiving their bill.

The PTO funds things such as playground and gym equipment, classroom supplies, field trips and library books, said President Amy Schrank. Other fundraisers include the fall book fair and spring carnival.

"This is a new fundraiser for us," she said. "We're very excited. This is a good time for it for the PTO, and also for Joey's."

Schrank thanked Joey's for assisting.

"Joey's has been really really helpful to us, and we're grateful they're partnering with us for the fundraiser," she said.
