To the editor:
I realize that budgets are tight and cost savings must be found in everybody's budgets.
I know our state government is doing it's best to balance a budget and austerity is one way to do it.
However, I think turning off the lights on the Hancock side of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge is just a little bit much. For some time now, over a year at least, our celebrated and historic bridge between our two communities has been sadly lacking in lights on the Hancock tower.
As someone who enjoys taking pictures, I have many nice shots from days past when both towers used to be nicely lit at night. I now find it frustrating to see night after night the Houghton tower lit up with lights on the staircase and the Hancock side dark.
If the electricity costs too much to light up both towers accordingly, how about taking half the light bulbs from the Houghton side and putting half on the Hancock side?

The bridge is a very nice attraction to the area and I am sure I am not the only one around here who likes to take night shots. Just saying.
