Loretta Blau

CALUMET - Loretta Blau, 85, a resident of Calumet and summer resident of Cedar Bay, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Portage Health in Hancock.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1927, in Centennial Heights, the 2nd eldest daughter of the late Oakley and Gertrude (Amala) Rowe. Loretta attended school in Centennial Heights, Centennial and Calumet High School. She was a 1969 graduate who earned her diploma after an absence of 25 years. She received her diploma in cap and gown with the class from the 1st adult education class through the high school. She remains with the alumni of the class of 1945. She pursued a degree in Human Services at Suomi College.

She was employed by the Michigan Employment Security Commission as a public service worker from 1970-74. In 1974, she went to work as an aide and later as a team leader in the daily living skills program for severely mentally disabled adults at a day program at Copper Country Mental Health. She was a dedicated worker and always referred to the center as her home away from home for 20 years.

On July 29, 1978, she was married to Earl Blau and he preceded her in death in 2008.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and the ladies quilting group. Loretta loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at the cottage in Cedar Bay.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Delores Ryding and Kathleen Gawlick; a brother, Buddy Rowe and a son in law, Frank Musich.

Surviving are: seven children, Bruce "Cukie" (Sandra) Coppo of Calumet, Janet (Dave) Kaurala of Osceola, Paul (Lorraine) Macomber of Bumbletown, Marilyn Musich of Cedar Bay, Roger Macomber of Pyullap, Washington, Terry Macomber of Alabama, Brian (Becky) Macomber of Centennial Heights; grandchildren, Bruce (Kathy) Coppo, David (Danielle) Coppo, Kevin (Kendra) Coppo, Tim Coppo, Eric (Julie) Waara, Aaron Waara, Edward Macomber, Stephanie Heikell, Paul Heikell, Christine (Jon) Supanich, Mike (Shonnie) Brinkman, Leann (Charles) Fogle, Jesse, Rory & Blake Macomber, Erik Macomber and Leann Macomber; great grandchildren, Gabe, Seth, Gracie, Mikayla, Isabella, Chloe, Brad, Natalie, Samantha, Katie, Meredith, Katelyn, Allison, Kai, Kelly and Edward Jr.; four sisters, Elaine Beaudoin, Judy Jarvi, Carol (Jack) Barry and Jean Cygan; three Brothers, Ken (Nancy) Rowe, Jay (Joyce) Rowe and Mark (Colleen) Rowe of Calumet; two step children, Darlene (Clyde) Gruver and Ronald Blau; a sister in law, Doris Rowe and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012 at noon at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet with Rev. Peter Vorhes to officiate. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 to noon.

The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
