FARMINGTON, Mich. - Irene R. Karna, of Farmington, died Nov. 29, 2012. She was age 89.
Irene was born in Chassell on Aug. 2, 1923 to the late Emil & Huldah (Mantylla) Ranta.
She was a graduate of Chassell High School.
On Jan. 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Aulie Karna, of Painesdale. They resided in the Detroit area, where they raised their family of one girl and three boys. Irene was a devoted homemaker, but continued working as a bookkeeper, employed into her 70s.
Surviving are one daughter, Pamela (Denny) Vogel, and three sons, Timothy Karna, Thomas (Sharon) Karna, and Theodore (Carol) Karna; grandchildren, Matthew Robert Vogel, Michael Thomas Vogel, Gregory Thomas Karna, Bradley Vincent Karna, Marjorie Jean Karna James Douglas Karna and Jennifer Nicole Karna; and great-grandchildren Keelie Mae Craique & Kennedy Claire Karna.
Irene is also survived by her brothers Ronald (Beverly) Ranta and Paul (Karen) Ranta; and sisters Shirley (Mike) Yokie and Susan (Scott) Simkover.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aulie; her sisters Helmi (John) Ruotsi, Helen (Albert) Harma, Aili Rimmi; brothers Arvid (Dorothy) Ranta and John (Nina) Ranta; and her step-mother Vieno Ranta.
Funeral service is Saturday, Dec. 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, Farmington, Mich.
Visitation is Saturday, Dec. 8, noon 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Officiating is Pastor Jackie Rau, of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Southfield, Mich. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek, Mich.
