Gary Brulla

CALUMET - Gary Brulla, 68, a resident of Bumbletown Road and formerly of Rabbit Bay, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

He was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Laurium, a son of the late Matt and Phyllis (Ziehr) Brulla. He attended Calumet High School.

On July 25, 1964, he was married to the former Dorothy Muretich in St. John the Baptist Croatian Church in Calumet.

He enjoyed camping at Nara's, fishing and feeding the birds.

Gary worked on Isle Royale building the docks and for C&H in the foundry until the mines closed. He moved to Chicago, working in a foundry there until 1966 when he returned to the Copper Country, working for Anchor Weight as a pipe layer and lastly, for Michigan Bell, SBC and AT&T as a lineman for 30 years.

He was a member of the Lake Linden Sportsman Club, CWA Local 4212, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Men's Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; uncle, Al Brulla; niece, Lynn Hartman.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Denise (Eric) Karvonen of Kearsarge, Beth (Paul) Torgersen of Minnetonka, Minn. and Tracy (Jon) McCord of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; son, Terry "Bear" (Julie Karvonen) Brulla of Swedetown.; grandchildren, Kyle Cinelli and fiancee, Jessica St. John, Brandon Strauch, Denvy McCord and Isabelle McCord; brother, James (Janet) Brulla of Manistique; sister, Bonnie (Jim) Kimball of Ishpeming; uncle, Paul "Poncho" Brulla at Cypress Manor; aunt, Deetz Brulla of Laurium; sister-in-law, Marion (Joe) Waananen of Ahmeek.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 5 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
