The Daily Mining Gazette

HANCOCK - Dylan Hanke recorded a hat trick and Jacob Givens made the first goaltending victory of his prep career a shutout as Hancock blanked L'Anse 7-0 in Lake Superior Hockey Conference play at Houghton County Arena Thursday.

Hanke got the Bulldogs on the board at 2:56 of the second period, then added an unassisted goal just nine seconds into the third. He completed the hat trick, the second of his prep career, with a shorthanded goal at 14:17 of the third. Hanke assisted on the Bulldogs' only power-play goal, scored by Jack Fenton at 11:19 of the second.

After being held in the first period, Hancock scored three times in the second and four in the fourth to go to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in LSHC play.

Wade Hanke had a goal and two assists, while Matthew Sanregret and Tanner Kearly also lit the lamp for the Bulldogs, who play at Jeffers a week from tonight.

Givens, a junior, made 21 saves in his first prep appearance.

L'Anse, yet to score in three games this season, got 26 saves from Jason Rank. The Purple Hornets (0-3, 0-2) play Negaunee tonight at the Gil Versailles Memorial Tournament hosted by Escanaba.
