L'Anse Area Schools is dismissing at 11:55 a.m. today due to illness, and the district will remain closed Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
Superintendent Ray Pasquali said "significant numbers of absences due to flu-like symptoms" is the cause, along with many staff members reporting illness.
The number of absences were "climbing by the hours," according to Pasquali, and they had reached almost 30 percent in the elementary school and almost 20 percent in the junior/senior high school.
Tonight's regular school board meeting has been canceled as well, and the December meeting will be combined with the January meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 14. All varsity sporting events have also been postponed.
School will resume as normal on Thursday and Friday before dismissing for the holiday break.
