GAYLORD - Nick Harris made his first prep goal a big one, scoring the game-winning goal on an assist from his cousin, Anthony, as Jeffers defeated Big Rapids 2-1 Saturday in the Gaylord Division 3 Invitational.
"I give the boys credit for having the tenacity to come back, even if the game was a bit sloppy against Big Rapids, and get the win," Jet coach David Bekkala said.
The Jets fell behind less than three minutes into the game and were outshot 40-32, but got an equalizer in the second period, then the winning goal to up their record to 4-2 overall.
Travis Wesa tied it up seven minutes into the second period for his 11th goal of the season before Nick Harris converted a one-timer from Anthony with just 1:57 remaining. Ross Michaels drew the second assist on the power-play goal.
"It was beautiful tic-tac passing and Nick fired it in," Bekkala said.
The Jets also got a great game out of goaltender Dax Durocher, who made 39 saves.
"I thought our defense did a nice job for the most part trying to keep them on the outside, but obviously when you give up 40 shots, you're having solid goaltending," Bekkala said.
The Jets' home opener tonight against L'Anse has been postponed due to illness in L'Anse, but the Jets will have a home game Friday against Hancock.
