Delores J. Bishop

MOHAWK - Delores J. Bishop, 80, a resident of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility and former Mohawk resident passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012.

She was born May 6, 1932, in Copper City, a daughter of John Stephen and Evelyn Blanche (Martin) Eckloff. She attended Calumet High School and later Ferndale High School, graduating with the class of 1978.

Delores married Charles Bishop on Mar. 12, 1955, in Angola, Ind. They made their home in the Detroit area until moving to Mohawk in 1978.

She worked for Fanny Farmer Candy Company for several years and taught Bible Club at the Ferndale School District for 17 years, receiving the Teachers Award. She was the pianist for the Salvation Army and was a member of the Golden Agers Club in Royal Oak.

Since moving to Mohawk, Delores was the pianist for the Hancock Salvation Army and taught Sunday School for 13 years. Delores was the historian for the Hancock and Calumet 100th Anniversary Celebration.

She attended the United Methodist Church in Calumet and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club. She enjoyed playing piano for church as well as at six nursing homes per month. Delores also enjoyed playing the accordian for family get-togethers and sing-alongs.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Chalres in 2006; son, Steven Charles Bishop; two sisters, Barbara Kaifesh and Jean Sager.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Danielson and fiance, Rob Benso of Smiths Creek, Mich.; three grandchildren, Cale Archibald of Madison Heights, Mich., Shannon (David) Walker of Williamsburg, Ky. and Jennifer (James) Williams of West Palm Beach, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Jean, Janelle, Jenna, Kaleb and Josie; brothers, Robert (Florence) Eckloff of Swanton, Ohio, Donald (Julia) Eckloff of Jumul, Calif., Clarence (Betty) Eckloff of Hayward, Calif. and William (Jean) Eckloff of Ontonagon; sisters, Mary-Lou (Fred) Mattila of Houghton, Dorothy Cass of Keweenaw Pines, Mohawk, Carol (Jessie) Holbrook of Sheboygan, Wis. and Joyce (Robert) Laumann of Milwaukee, Wis.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob White to officiate. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m.
