To the editor:
In Harley Sachs' Dec. 10 letter to The Daily Mining Gazette, he asserts Palestinians weren't given Jordanian citizenship. This is absolutely untrue. When I lived there, Palestinians had Jordanian passports and held positions in the Jordanian government. One Palestinian official told a touching story how he and others approached the Jordanians after the 1948 cease-fire and asked for help governing the West Bank, then in chaos and choked with refugees, since the British had all left. The Jordanians responded by giving him a government position.
Israel drove 750,000 Palestinians into refugee camps in order to create a Jewish state with a Jewish majority, very similar in concept to the Nazi ideal of an Aryan state. The Palestinians fled to avoid being murdered by Israelis, not because their leaders told them to go.
I agree with Mr. Sachs that the description of Gaza as a prison is inadequate. In a prison, the operators are responsible for the care and feeding of prisoners. Gaza is more like a concentration camp, or the Warsaw ghetto.
Mr. Sachs' letter supports one theory about Zionists - that they want to create antisemitism in this country so American Jews will emigrate to Israel.
