LAURIUM - Marcia Miller, 80, a resident of Laurium and Gratiot Lake, passed away at her home in Laurium on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
She was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Laurium, a daughter of the late George and Elita (Rosemergy) Petermann.
At the age of nine, Marcia and her family moved to Lansing where she graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 1949 and later from Michigan State University in 1953 with a major in French.
In March, 1951, she met her future husband, Leonard, and they were married June 27, 1953, in Lansing. To their marriage were born three daughters, Audrey, Laura and Karla.
When she moved back to Laurium in 1956, she was employed in area schools until settling at Calumet Public Schools working as a teacher's aide and as Assistant Librarian until her retirement.
Throughout the years of marriage, she and Leonard enjoyed being host parents to foreign exchange students from nine different countries. They became their children in no time at all. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see their exchange students in their countries.
Her greatest joy was spending time at Gratiot Lake with family and friends.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Laurium, Calumet Players and Keweenaw Kernewek.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Patricia Mitchell.
Surviving are her husband, Leonard; three daughers, Audrey (Charles) Stenson of St. Ignace, Laura (Dan) L'Huillier of Idaho and Karla (Joe) Caron of Gratiot Lake; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Justin, Christian, Megan, Jared, Jesse, Danny and Elizabeth.; six great-grandchildren which were her pride and joy: Lilyan, Curtis, Zoey, Aiden, Kaiden and Elita; two great-great-grandchildren , Katrina and Wyatt; brother-in-law, David Mitchell of Laurium; special close family friend, Mary Pietila of Pontiac.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home with Rev. James Fundum to officiate. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with arrangements.
