Nina Swykert

MOHAWK - Nina Swykert, 93, a former resident of Mohawk and lately of Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.

She was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Hubbell, the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary (Vincent) Rogers. Nina graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1938.

On Dec. 22, 1940, she was married to Joseph Swykert and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2001.

Nina was born and raised in the Copper Country until moving to Detroit in 1940 where she lived until retirement in 1981, then returning to the Copper Country to make her home in Mohawk.

She was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, Cornish Club and American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were her husband; sisters, Naomi, Clarice and Florence; and brothers, Melvin, Ted, George and Walter.

She is survived by three sons: David Swykert of Covington, Ky., Roger (Rosemarie) Swykert of Wylie, Texas and Joe (Debra) Swykert of Farmington Hills, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service and graveside service will be held in the spring in the Lake View Cemetery Chapel in Calumet.
