EWEN - The Ewen-Trout Creek boys trailed by six in the mid-second quarter but quickly overturned the deficit and defeated Wakefield-Marenisco 69-52 Friday.
"We just started pressuring a lot more. I don't know if it was too many holiday cookies or what," E-TC coach Brad Besonen said.
The Panthers finished the half with a big run to go up 31-22 at the break, then pulled away steadily.
"The second half was really fun to watch. We were sharing it a lot and got some other guys involved," Besonen said.
The Panthers got the usual monster haul from Dillon Gordon (28 points), but got a little better balance Friday, putting Mike Borseth (18) and Lane Brown (10) in double figures.
"Some other guys were hitting some shots. Mike had a really nice game, six assists, five steals and zero turnovers."
Eric Lane led the Cardinals with 22 points.
E-TC (4-2), which won the JV game, plays at Hurley, Wis. Jan. 7.
