PAYNESVILLE - Thomas G. Bailey, 70, of Paynesville, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 22, 1942 in Ontonagon, son of the late Harold and Esther (Erickson) Bailey and was the Salutatorian of the Ontonagon High School Class of 1961.

Tom married Delores Hirvonen on Sept. 21, 1991, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Paynesville.

He worked at the Ontonagon Paper Mill for 42 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member and active lay person of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1840 in Ontonagon, the NRA and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and cooking.

He is survived by his wife, Delores "Dee" of Paynesville; a son, Thomas (Jeana) of Ontonagon; a daughter, Vonda (Sean) Lukkari of Mass City; five grandchildren, Tyler, Alexis, Samantha, Noah and Nicole; a brother, Jim (Garnet) of Ontonagon; his former wife, Sally Bailey of Ontonagon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his mother-in-law, Elma Hirvonen of Gladstone.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Benn; and a sister, Kathryn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 31, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Timothy Nyikako officiating. Interment will be in the Paynesville Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, Dec. 30, and will be held one hour before the service on Monday in the church.
