Gordon “Gus” Francis Sibilsky

PLAINVIEW, MINN. - Gordon "Gus" Francis Sibilsky, 80, passed away in the presence of his family on Dec. 17, 2012. He had been a resident of St. Isidore Health Center in Plainview, Minn. for the past three years.

He was born in Houghton on Feb. 7, 1932, a son of Theodore and Margaret (Chaudier) Siblisky. Gus graduated from Houghton High School and Michigan Technological University with a bachelor's of arts degree in Liberal Arts.

He was married to Sharon Karrio on Aug. 31, 1972.

Gus worked on the line crew at Upper Peninsula Power Company, was the harbormaster at Houghton County Marina and an English instructor at Suomi College.

Gus was a wonderful, devoted family man. He enjoyed baseball, the outdoors, history and the arts.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; children, Susan (Joe) Hardin, Steve (Virginia) Heikell, Paula (Peter Fisher) Heikell, Sandi Rahkola and Chris Sky; grandson, Levi Sky; brother, Ted (Dorothy) Sibilsky and their children, Mary Anne (Jim) Sweida; Joan (Barry) Kerwin, Patty Hestekin and Ted (Katie) Sibilsky; aunt Pearl (Bill) Carkeek; sisters-in-law, Sally (Roy) Nakkula, Pat Coon and Sandy Norton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
