Gremlin swimmers superb in home Splash

HOUGHTON - Houghton ruled the pool in its home Gremlin Splash Saturday.

The Gremlins won 13 girls' events, six boys and the 500-yard mixed relay in the four-team meet, which features non-traditional events.

Sisters Jill and Colleen Toorongian were both double winners for Houghton, with Jill (a senior) taking the 100 free and 100 individual medley and Colleen (a freshman) topping the field in the 200 free and 200 breast.

Annika Wheeler also won two individual events for Houghton, the 50 and 200 fly.

Houghton also took all three relays.

On the boys' side, James DeClerck won the 50 free and 200 fly and Houghton won two relays.

The Gremlins capped off the day in the mixed relay, won by the team of Rebecca Jaszczak, Daniel Shonnard, Hannah Gundlach and DeClerck in 5 minutes, .56 seconds.

Houghton swims at Kingsford today.
