Jeanne R. Beck

CHASSELL - Jeanne R. Beck, 85, a life-long Chassell area resident, passed away on Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013, at the Franklin House of PortagePointe in Hancock.

She was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Chassell to the late Joseph and Mary (Savard) Poisson. She attended Chassell area schools.

Jeanne was employed for a time at St. Joseph Hospital in Hancock. She often cared for children outside of her home as well as being a wife, mother and grandmother in her own family home. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and caring for them throughout the years. Her great-grandson, Logan, always seemed to bring a smile to her face.

She enjoyed gardening and canning, especially vegetables.

In her later years, she resided at Maple Manor in Ontonagon and at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock before going to PortagePointe.

On Aug. 19, 1950, she married John Richard Beck in Chassell. He preceded her in death on Mar. 10, 1999.

While living in Chassell, she was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church where she also belonged to its' Altar Society.

Besides her husband and parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Poisson; and two sisters, Cecil Parent and Alice Weber.

She is survived by two sons, John Beck of Norway, Mich. and Gary (Julie) Beck of Chassell; a daughter, Julian "Paula" Beck of Howell, Mich.; five grandchildren, Andrew Beck, Helmi (Josh) Beck, Liisa Beck, Michael (Patti) Phillips and Jonathon Phillips; a great-grandson, Logan Barker; one sister, Bernice Nicholson of Hancock; nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Fr. Corbin Eddy to officiate. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Jeanne's family would like to thank the staff at PortagePointe Franklin House for the wonderful care and attention.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly in Hancock or to the charity of one's choice in the name of Jeanne Beck.
