WHITE PINE - John Maki, 95, a resident of White Pine and current resident of Woodland Haven at Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock passed away Jan. 9. 2013, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born on June 27, 1917, in South Range, a son of the late John and Adolfiina (Hernesmaa) Maki.
John attended the Painesdale School and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On Feb. 3, 1940, he was married to Martha Seppanen and she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2009.
After their marriage they lived in Detroit for a short time until moving to Hancock and eventually making their home in White Pine where John worked for the White Pine Copper Mine.
John was an avid Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings fan. He also loved to hunt and go lake fishing.
Surviving are daughter, Linda Lewis of Duluth, Minn,; two granddaughters, Shanna Serbus and Danielle Johansen; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday Jan. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Rev. Bob White to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
