Saluting school board members

January 19, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

January is School Board Recognition Month - a time to salute the work of our volunteer board members and celebrate public education. It's an exciting and challenging time in public education. School board members in the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw develop policies and make tough decisions that shape the future of our education system. They are citizens whose decisions affect our children and build our community. We applaud them for their vision and voice to prepare today's students to be tomorrow's leaders.

This January, the staff and students of our district are asking all members of the Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw community to take a moment and thank the following the CLK school board members: Mr. Bob Erkkila, president; Mr. Michael Luoma, vice president; Mrs. Phyllis Locatelli, secretary; Mr. Larry Kristapovich, treasurer; Mr. Phil Halonen, trustee; Mr. Matt Vertin, trustee, and Mr. Dan Zubiena, trustee.
