Volunteer Coordinator Janet Wolfe reported that Ontonagon Area High School students have been assisting at the shelter helping to socialize animals, clean cages and performing general housekeeping duties. Two National Honor Society members have committed 30 hours of their time and have been working on weekends. One brings a friend, who provides additional help. Students involved in a senior project also spent some of their class hours working at the shelter.

Elmer, a cat currently available for adoption through the Ontonagon County Animal Protection shelter. Elmer, shown playing on his back, is described as a very friendly, chubby, black and white male with lots of personality.
"It's good to have energetic young people interested in caring for the animals," Wolfe said. "They could be the people who replace us or support other shelters some day."
