BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Jean P. Pratt, 84, of Baraga and Boulder City, Nev. passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at home in Boulder City with her husband, Richard, at her side.
Jean was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Alston to the late James and Violet Grant.
She was married to Jack Swanson from 1947 until his death in 1961, to Lorenz Rickert from 1965 until his death in 1987 and to Richard Pratt from 1994 to the time of her death. She was married three times and said she was blessed to have such wonderful husbands.
Jean worked at the Baraga State Park and then for many years as bookkeeper for Baraga Public Schools. She was respected not only for her accounting skills, but also for her care and compassion for the staff and students of the Baraga Schools.
Jean led an active life that revolved around family and friends. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she served at various times as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer.
Jean enjoyed traveling; trips to Hawaii and Europe were the highlights of her adventures. She enjoyed attending any events in which her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated.
Jean was a friend to all. She was a gentle, kind soul. The world is a better place because of her. Her encredible faith, strength, grace and love for others will live on in all of us who were blessed to have her in our lives.
Jean is survived by her caring husband, Richard; her children, Karen (Paul) Mayo of Baraga, Rev. Keith (Rebecca) Swanson of Green Bay and Marlene (Bonny Parker) Swanson of Prior Lake, Minn.; Richard's children; Jeff Loman, Ward Loman, Doug (Lynn) Loman and Danny (Susan) Pratt; six grandchildren, Lori (Jeremy) Lange, Heather (Chad) Grentz, Kaitlin Swanson, Greg Swanson and Paul (Illiana) Mayo; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan, Mara and Aiden Grentz, Ryan and Kaylee Lange and Max Mayo; a brother, Donald Grant of Green Bay; her sister-in-law Cathy Grant of Carpentersville, Ill.; nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Swanson and Lorenz Rickert; her parents; brothers, James, Gilbert and Robert Grant.
A memorial service celebrating the Resurrection and the Hope of Eternal Life will be held later this spring in Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga. Memorials may be made to the church in Baraga.
