FT. MYERS, Fla. - Charles E. Norgard, 92, of Ft. Myers, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. A former resident of Farmington Hills, Mich. and San Diego, Calif., he had been a resident of Ft. Myers for the past 18 years.
He was born Nov. 28, 1920 in Dollar Bay, a son of the late Emil and Anna (Backman) Norgard.
After high school graduation, he worked for Chrysler Corp. as an apprentice tool maker in Detroit. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a bombardier during the war. He rejoined Chrysler after the war and in 1947, went to work for Burroughs Corp. (now Unisys) and retired in 1984 after 37 years.
He completed his college degree at the age of 53, attending Henry Ford Community College and the University of Michigan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Beatrice L. Norgard; daughter Gail N. (John) Tudor of Middleton, Mass; son, Lindsay A. Norgard of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brother, Willis (Carolyn) Norgard of Ogden, Utah; sister, Gladys McCormack of Houghton; and three grandchildren, Allison, Corey and Casey Tudor, all of Middleton, Mass.
Charles was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Diane Shafer in 2011; four brothers, James, Robert, Norman and Allen Norgard.
He was an avid golfer, a wonderful storyteller and a devoted family man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 15 at noon in Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 38300 Tamiami Tr. So. with Rev. Tim Deacon officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services.
Additional services with Military Honors will be held Monday, Feb.18 at 11 a.m. at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia, Mich.
