Florence Murn

LAURIUM - Florence Murn, 93, of Laurium, passed away Feb. 12, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease and Leukemia.

She was born in Lake Linden May 22, 1919, a daughter of Arthur and Mary Louise Baril. She attended St. Joseph Elementary and Lake Linden High School.

Florence married Albert Murn on May 16, 1940, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet. Albert passed away Dec. 7, 1999.

She enjoyed playing Bingo. She was a dedicated wife, mom and grandma who cherished the time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lionel and Robert; and six sisters, Madeline, Clara LeSage, Stella Scott, May Abele, Dorothy Chevalier and Irene Schnotala.

Surviving are a son, Paul (JoAnn) Murn of West Bend, Ind.; two daughters, Susan Olkkonen of Silver City and Mary (Rick) Angell of Alaska; grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Murn, Sandy (Scott) Pietila, David (Heather) Olkkonen, Daniel (Janelle) Olkkonen, Jeremy (Teresa) Angell, Denise Olli and Jennifer (Josh) Poole: great-grandchildren, Kristen, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Niko, Olivia, Jenna and Owen Olkkonen, Brendan and Jared Pietila, Justin, Hannah and Brenna Poole; three brothers, Reuben (Doris), Edward "Jimmy" and Urban "Tibby" (Carol); one sister, Doris Julio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Shebuski and the staff at Houghton County Medical Care Facility for their excellent compassionate care.
