HOUGHTON - The Houghton boys' basketball team recorded its highest offensive output of the season and pushed its win total into double digits after a 75-53 non-conference win over Ontonagon Thursday.
The Gremlins (10-4) broke open a 33-21 game at halftime with 27 points in the third quarter alone.
"In the second half, we came out and turned up the intensity on the defensive end. We did a real good job with our full-court press at the start of the second half. That really allowed us to pull away," Houghton coach Jared Lawson said.
Cody Goodreau set a career scoring high and led Houghton with 23 points, while Zack Ohtonen added 20, 17 of them coming from the free-throw line, where the Gremlins were 26-for-33 as a team.
Aaron Kaikko poured in 23 to pace the Gladiators (3-11).
