L'ANSE - In addition to approving a joint recreation plan with L'Anse Township and L'Anse Area Schools (more details in Wednesday's Daily Mining Gazette), the L'Anse village council took action to keep forging ahead on its water project.

The council approved a draw request through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program for $83,821.77, all paid to Danielson Contracting for their work on the project.

"It seems to be moving along pretty well," L'Anse Village Manager Bob LaFave said in a phone interview this morning. "We have some extra money left over and we're going to be meeting with engineers to see what kind of work we can have done this summer."

In other business Monday the council:

approved $200 for ad space in the U.P. Firefighters Tournament, which will take place Aug. 1-3 this year in L'Anse. The money will come from WPPI Energy funds.

heard a legal update from the village attorney, including details about closing on the wastewater project with Gerace Construction and information on codifying village ordinances.
