To the editor:
Omega House, the Upper Peninsula's only hospice home providing a residential home environment for terminally ill residents and Swedetown Trails Club, operating the Swedetown recreational area, wish to thank all who participated in and contributed to a successful 1st Ski for the Key 2013, Feb. 16 at Swedetown Trails in Calumet.
More than 80 skiers and snowshoers took part on a sometimes snowy, sometimes sunny day. Teams representing Aspirus Keweenaw Home Health & Hospice, Aspirus Keweenaw Medical Arts, Swedetown Trails Club, Omega House, the Bumbletown Snot Rockets, Team Science and Portage Health, all long time supporters of Ski for the Key (formerly Ski for the Heart), as well as individuals, finished the day with a total of close to 700 kilometers skied and snowshoed.
Steve Parks was our first place skier, coming in at 60 km. Participants and contributors helped raise more than $6,000 for Omega House and Swedetown Trails Club.
Our thanks to Aspirus Keweenaw Home Health & Hospice, Aspirus Keweenaw Medical Arts, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, BlueSky Health, Calumet Electronics, Portage Health, Range Bank, ThermoAnalytics and xmatic, whose donations and sponsorships contributed to the financial success of the event.
