N. Joyce Paulson

BALTIC - N. Joyce Paulson, 82, a resident of Baltic, died on Sunday, Mar. 10, 2013, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

She was born in South Range on Feb. 12, 1931, a daughter of the late Arthur and Jenny (Kinnunen) Sjostrand, and was a 1949 graduate of the Painesdale High School.

On Feb. 25, 1950, she was married to Ronald R. "Dovey" Paulson in South Range.

Joyce worked as a nurse aide for 25 years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hancock, later known as Portage View Hospital, retiring from there.

Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are her husband, Dovey of Baltic; two sons, three daughters and seven grandchildren, Bonnie Manderfield of South Range, and her children, Jesse (Danielle) Manderfield and Dylan Eastman, Gary Paulson of South Range, Ronnie Paulson of South Range and his daughter, Jessica (Jerry) Irvine, Carrie (Brian) Maki of South Range and their children, Melissa (Dan) Niemi and Troy (Heather) Maki, Wendy Anderson of South Range and her children, Sasha Anderson and Alana (Joe) Sweeney; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Ralph) Tapani of South Range and Gloria Stone of South Range; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jacob Manderfield; two brothers, Einar and Edwin Sjostrand; a sister, Esther Pennanen; a brother-in-law, Clem Stone; a niece, Donna Stone; two nephews, Stephen Tapani and Michael Pennanen; and a son-in-law, Ted Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14, 2013, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, with Pastor Elmer Liimatta to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the mortuary. Interment will be in the spring at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
