HUDSONVILLE - Rhoda Jean (Kelly) Reini, 79, of Hudsonville, Mich., died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, March 17, 2013, in Grand Rapids Mich.
Mrs. Reini was born on July 9, 1933, and grew up in the Okemos area where her parents, Ruth & Luke, were educators. Rhoda earned her Bachelor's degree at Michigan State University.
Rhoda travelled internationally as a young woman joining her family in India in 1952 when her father served as an Agriculture Education Consultant and later as a member of the International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) in Greece in 1954.
Rhoda then worked for the Home Economic Extension serving localities throughout Michigan. It was during her assignment in Ironwood when she met a young accountant, Eino Reini, at an MSU alumni meeting. Eino and Rhoda were married in September 1959. The couple moved to Hancock where they raised their three sons, Luke, Walter & Joseph.
For many years, Rhoda taught in the local communities surrounding Hancock and the family also hosted exchange students from Greece and Brazil. Later, Eino & Rhoda cared for numerous foster children in their home.
Eino and Rhoda moved in 1995 to the Grand Rapids area. Following Eino's death in 1997, Rhoda remained in the Hudsonville area residing close to her sisters, Patricia Moore and Roberta First Delmarter. In 2000, Rhoda met John Siedis of Hudsonville MI and the two enjoyed many years of companionship.
Rhoda is survived by her three sons, Luke (Lake Orion), Walter (Croswell) and Joseph (Kennesaw GA) and their respective families: Kim, Sophia & William; Karen, Andrew (AJ) and Brandon; and Susan, Joshua, Jacob & Baylor, her sisters Patricia and Roberta, and John Siedis of Hudsonville.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids Mich. Visitation will precede the funeral at 10:00 a.m. A graveside ceremony in Okemos will follow where Rhoda will be interred next to Eino and her parents, Ruth & Luke Kelly.
The Eino M. & Rhoda J. Reini Memorial Scholarship was established well over a decade ago to provide financial assistance to students attending Michigan Technological University, where Eino was employed during his lifetime and Rhoda, Luke, Walter & Joseph attended.
