DePERE, Wis. - The Portage Lake Pioneers guaranteed themselves a share of the Great Lakes Hockey League regular season title Friday.
Portage Lake routed last-place DePere 11-3.
At 16-3-0, Portage Lake has tied Vernon Hills, which has completed its regular season, for the league lead, and a win or overtime loss tonight at Fox Cities would give the Pioneers the championship outright and the top seed in the league tournament in two weeks at Eagle River.
The Pioneers were in control throughout, as two goals each from Blake Miller and Pete Rouleau made it 4-0 after a period.
Portage Lake tacked on six more in the second to start the victory march.
Rouleau finished with four goals, while Miller and Ryan Sullivan both had hat tricks.
Jordan Roy stopped 35 shots.
In Appleton, the Calumet Wolverines lost 6-2 to the Fox Cities Ice Dogs.
The Wolverines (9-9-1) got the game's first goal from Josh Harju, but surrendered the next four to fall behind the fourth-place Ice Dogs.
Logan Rastello pulled one back for Calumet, but Fox Cities finished the game off with two goals for the final total.
Fox Cities outshot Calumet 31-24.
Calumet completes its regular season against DePere tonight needing a win to tie Madison for sixth in the GLHL.
