CALUMET - The spring prom and summer wedding seasons are rapidly approaching, and New Beginnings Angel Mission is asking for donations of prom and wedding attire for those who may not be able to afford to buy new clothing.
Terry Bazin, New Beginnings Angel Mission Free Store co-director, said the store, located at 119 Fifth St. in Calumet, has received some prom dresses already, but many more are needed.
"Right now we have eight or nine gowns," she said.
Four or five gowns have also been given away, Bazin said.
So far the dresses the store have received been nice.
"All of them have been in excellent condition," Bazin said.
The store received many requests for prom dresses, Bazin said, so it was decided to ask for donations specifically for that specific attire as well as wedding dresses and tuxedos.
"We haven't gotten any tuxedos, but we've gotten suits," she said.
Although it isn't being required, Bazin said those who come in for prom or wedding attire are being asked to bring the clothing back when the event is over so someone else can make use of it.
The store doesn't provide tailoring, but Bazin said there are local tailors who will do alterations for a relatively low price.
"We're hoping what we get fits (those looking for clothing)," she said.
For wedding attire, Bazin said the store is looking, also, for bridesmaids, flower girls and mother of the bride clothing. Nice clothing for people planning to attend weddings are also being sought.
Donations can be brought to New Beginnings Angel Mission 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
