The Daily Mining Gazette

BESSEMER - Travis Kaurala of Pelkie came within seconds of making a rare 4-for-4 run through the Mid-America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers circuit snowmobile hillclimb at Big Powderhorn.

Kaurala won Pro Stock 600, Pro Open Stock and Pro Mod 600, coming within two seconds of Kyle Wadaga of L'Anse in Pro Mod 800.

In the all-Baraga County Pro Stock King of the Hill shootout, Kaurala set the fastest time with the first run and rolled to victory by four seconds over Wyler Miller of Pelkie.

He followed it up with another impressive run in Pro Mod, completing the course in 50 seconds to earn the double.

In the MASTERS snow drags at Big Powderhorn, several locals had excellent performances, starting with Derek Peterson of Atlantic Mine. On a Polaris, Peterson won Stock 600 (continuing a three-year unbeaten streak in the class), Stock 800 and Open Stock.

On the Mod side, Jim Johnson of Skanee was tops in Mod 500, while Jerry Buschell of Lake Linden took the Mod 700 class.
