Barbara Leskinen

MOHAWK - Barbara Leskinen, 79, a lifelong resident of Keweenaw County, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wis.

Barbara was born April 29, 1933, in Ahmeek, the daughter of the late Anton and Virginia (Hodges) Stukel.

She married William "Bill" Leskinen on January 6, 1951. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2011.

Barbara graduated from Calumet High School and worked for many years as a waitress at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge.

She was an avid golfer and enjoyed painting and quilting with the church ladies. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and going on walks.

Barbara was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandy (Hank) Garland of Mohawk and Paula Theiler of Mohawk; two sons, Butchie Leskinen of Ahmeek and Barney Leskinen of Mohawk; seven grandchildren, Kim, Jason, Rose, Henry, Billy, Laura and Josh; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, in Bethany Lutheran Church in Mohawk with Rev. Tim Johnston officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
