CALUMET - There is still a great deal of snow on the ground, but it is spring, which means some people will be looking to add new items to their wardrobe, so the New Beginnings Angel Mission Free Store will be presenting what they have available during its first-ever fashion show.
Terry Bazin, Free Store co-director, said the show will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. April 27 in the AmericInn in Calumet Township. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.
"We're featuring things that come into the store," she said. "Anything we feature will be available to take that day."
As with items in the store, there will be no cost for the items featured at the fashion show.
The event is a fundraiser to help defray costs for the Free Store, Bazin said, so there will be a $5 admission fee for adults and students, and $1 for children. Tickets are available at the Free Store located at 119 Fifth St. in Calumet, Morty's in Lake Linden, River Valley Bank in Calumet and radio station WMPL in Hancock.
The hours for the Free Store are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Bazin said the fashion show will include prom dresses and wedding attire, and casual wear for men, women and children.
There will be refreshments served at the fashion show, Bazin said, and door prizes of gift certificates for local restaurants will be offered.
Bazin said the Free Store is still hoping to receive more prom dresses and wedding attire. There is a special need for men's formal clothing and suits, also.
Depending on how well the fashion show is attended, Bazin said it may be done again next year.
"We're going to try to make it an annual fundraiser," she said.
