Houghton-Portage Township Schools students are seen in a bus that slid off the road at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Garnet Street Tuesday morning in Houghton. There were no injuries as a result of the accident, Superintendent Doreen Klingbeil said this morning. Students were delayed for 15 minutes while R&A Transportation sent over another bus.
Klingbeil said travel delays are factored in on days with heavy snow such as Tuesday. At eight snow days so far this year, this has been the most severe winter she’s seen in 12 years as an administrator.
“Given all that, our bus drivers do their very best to get our students here safely, and we really appreciate the patience our parents have,” she said. “I guess it’s part of living here, part of school in the Copper Country.”
