Local gymnasts continue to excel

LAKE LINDEN - Several gymnasts from the Copper Country Gymnastics team have continued to progress through the competition ranks.

Camaryn Crouch and Shay Holzberger placed first in all around competition in their age group and level at a non-sanctioned USA Gymnastics event in December, and they joined teammate Jessica McGaughey to compete in the AAU State and Regional Meet last Saturday in Loves Park, Ill.

They qualified to attend the AAU Age Group Nationals in Orlando, Fla., in June, and the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, in July.

"All three of them have increased their all around scores by one to two points since their last meet in March," coach Jeanie Lebel-Rabitoy said. "We are very proud of their accomplishments and are working hard to continue to upgrade our facilities in Lake Linden to accommodate these motivated athletes in their training."

McGaughey and teammate Maria Chizec both competed in their first meet in Rice Lake, Wis., in March.
