Jeffers boys win meet at L'Anse GC

L'ANSE - Jeffers struck first as the Copper Country Conference golf season is finally underway.

The Jets won the boys' half of the league meet at L'Anse Golf Club Wednesday, carding a 342 for a comfortable 35-shot win over Ontonagon.

Jeffers also held medalist honors, as Stephen Butina claimed the prize with his 82. Four others broke 90, with three of them being Jeffers teammates Christopher Outinen (86), Alex Outinen (87) and Jacob Zerbst (87).

Lake Linden-Hubbell's Trevor Ongie was the fifth with an 86.

Ontonagon's four counting scores all landed in the mid-90s, with Brandon Jilbert and Dylan Morris both finishing at 93 to lead the Gladiators.

LL-H finished third with 388, followed by Chassell (408) and Baraga (480).

Ontonagon comfortably won the girls' competition with a 251 over nine holes. Jeffers, the only other school to field a complete team, had 319.

Medalist honors went to Baraga's Rebecca Larson, who shot 55. Three others, Ontonagon's Abby Domitrovich and LL-H's Ciara Larson and Mandy Perreault, came in at 59.
