CALUMET - Elaine B. Leinonen, 79, a former resident of Calumet and Ironwood Michigan, passed away on Thursday May 9, 2013 at Arden Rehab and Healthcare near Seattle, Washington. She had been living out west to be near her daughter Caprice.

She was born on August 29, 1933 in Ironwood, Mich., a daughter of the late Jacob and Helga (Sikkila) Kleimola. Elaine graduated from Ironwood High School with the class of 1951.

She married Karl Leinonen on November 22,1952 and he preceded her in death in September of 1995.

Elaine was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being a stay-at-home mom. She often read to her grandchildren. Her love for her family blended with her love for shopping. Elaine was always on the lookout for a bargain at the secondhand stores which could be useful to some family member.

Travel was a favorite pastime for Elaine and her husband, Karl. The couple toured the United States extensively. Their two trips to Finland and other parts of Europe were a highlight of Elaine's life.

After suffering a hip fracture in May of 2011, Elaine's health continued to decline until the Lord called her home. She had faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her faith was demonstrated throughout her life with the love she had for all people.

Surviving are 3 Daughters: Terry (Gene) Aldrich of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Vicky (Mike) O'Mara of Westland, Mich.; Caprice (Jack) Leinonen of Bellevue, Wash.; and 3 Sons: Jerry (Carol) Leinonen of Calumet, MI; David (Judy) Leinonen of Elmira, Mich.; Brock (Marie) Leinonen of Westland, Mich.

Proceeding her in death were a brother Ray and a sister Vicky. She leaves two brothers: Donald Kleimola of Ramsey, Mich., and Wayne Sikkila of Austin, Texas.
