GLADWIN, Mich. - Evert L. Karjala, 83, of Gladwin, Mich., passed away on February 10, 2013, in Gladwin.
He was born in Hancock, Mich., on January 27, 1930, a son of the late Matt and Signe (Joensuu) Karjala and was a 1948 graduate of the Hancock Central High School.
Evert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Prior to retirement, Evert was employed as an auto parts sales representative at Falvy Motors in Ferndale, Mich.
Evert was first married to Maria "Betty" Immonen in 1950. She passed away in 1973. He later married Glenna Slone on May 7, 1983, in Royal Oak.
Surviving are his wife, Glenna of Gladwin; three sons, Mark of Sterling Heights, Kevin (Kimberly) of Lake Orion and Robert (Shelly) of Almont; a step-son, Bradley Lewis of Midland and his fiance, Rhonda Flores; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step-grandchild; two brothers, Tom of Green Bay and Nick of Ohio; two sisters, Sandra Petrin of Escanaba and Mary Ann Wanhala of Hancock; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evert was also preceded in death by a son, Keith; and a brother, Edwin.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013, in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, with Pastor David Weber to officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran's Association.
